There have been so many conflicts in the world that many people slowly lack faith for the government and their decision making. Budget Cuts have been one of the decisions in which has affected the state of California so much to a point where closing down schools is an option. Budget cuts have harmed so many people whether teachers, work study students, employments, students, and even the parents and families of these students. I have also encountered the effect of Budget cuts laid upon me since I started working as a work study student in Los Angeles Southwest College. There are so many students out there with different learning abilities and now the help too of these students has become limited. There are a lot of programs and activities that many students use to complete their A-G requirements. Most of these programs are needed such as clubs, elective classes and even after school tutoring programs. It has become challenging to these students because they have limited choices, affects the way they would look when applying to college, and probably the way they do in school. There is no reason in which the government has to choose to take money from schools because it is the place in where most need it.
Many of these budget cut decisions were made little by little since the 1960’s when the government decided to pass The California Master Plan for Higher Education and some other reforms in which slowly shaped what now is taking money away from schools. This law was introduced in the early 60’s creating new guidelines in public education such as community colleges, UC’s and CSU’s. Since then it has slowly evolved creating new ways to face the way education was slowly targeted throughout all these decades. Because of Budget Cuts many programs have been cut off and some of these programs such as transportation and after school clubs have been taken away to the students. It is not fair that some of these programs or money sent to schools is taken away when all these students are trying to do is to obtain their education and be someone in life since working in a mediocre job is not the greatest option out there.
Since budget cuts started, many schools had to be closed down along with the firing of teachers and student workers; I was one of the students whom was laid off at my own college. I was a student working as a work study student in Southwest Community College when all of a sudden I was sent a letter from the school saying that to stop working in the beginnings of April because the school lacked money to pay all their student workers. Not all were “laid off” but I was one of them that were affected since the school semester didn’t end in June. I had to stop working for 2 months and it really changed the way things were going in my house. I had to spend less on books, supplies, and even my personal supplies became something I lacked. I always liked the sense of feeling independent but this made my independence drop to a level where I had to ask money from my parents again. I never liked asking money because I feel that everybody has their own job to keep in the house and everybody earns what they earn for their hard work but this made me very disappointed. Since my father and I don’t carry that much of a strong relationship, it killed me so much to ask him for money especially cause he is so greedy and he asks why every time I ask him for some.
Many people are going through what is the unemployment program which is the government sending checks to the households of those who were laid off in their jobs. For that type of reason, the taxes go down every year and many can’t afford tuition. Budget cuts have made college tuition more higher and the fact that community colleges are cheaper than UC’s or CSU’s, the people who attend to these school’s have seen the way things have changed and the struggle they have to go through because of all these changes. People lack money and even though financial aid gives you money, it will never been enough and people will end up in debt. It is not fair to us, the students, that because the government is taking money away from all these schools, the consequences of their actions mainly go to the students since we are trying to get our education to be someone in life make our people proud.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger proposed for 4 million cuts in schools and the people are worried. Now that there is a new governor we don’t know whether what would happen to our schools or how long we have to support these cuts to the schools. Protesting and all these walks to fight against our rights have been the least we can do to show the whole society that this is important to us and that we need this. The part where everybody is worried about is that if the government actually decides to eliminate these cuts to the school, they can raise the cuts to their taxes or possibly their health insurance. This issue has created many worries to so many people even if budget cuts didn’t affected them, they could be the next person being targeted based on the governments decisions. Education is what gets you into a better life, it is the future you hold in your hands because you are going to do a career or a profession in which you would like to do and also get paid for it. It is unfair that the government is interfering with our education and our future and the bad thing is that we don’t have many people on our side to help us out in this situation, the help is limited and that is why we try to educate those who think that it is okay for the schools to be closed down or getting expensive.
The lack of not having people to be there to support us is a disadvantage because without people to be there to support we are nothing. This is the time where we show the government and the whole society that even though they might have their own opinions about budget cuts, education is the reason why they are all sitting in their chair, drinking coffee and enjoying every second of their comfortable chairs discussing how much money they should take from other people. If it wasn’t for education, they wouldn’t be what they are at the moment and be at that position. Their future wasn’t probably affected the way ours is right now and now that they’re school days are over they think it is okay that they do this to us? No way, we must fight for what we believe in and we must fight for our future. I want to be that person from my Mexican culture who is not stereotyped to be a girl at a young age to get pregnant and possibly be a single mother. I want my family to admire at my bright future ahead at me and overall I want them to be proud. I think everybody has a goal in their life towards where they want to head their education and this is another reason why we must fight.
Many schools in the area in which I live are not having winter session and this is really overwhelming. I would like to finish community college in 2 years with summer session and winter session included but this conflict in which many of the students have to face is disappointing. It just means we have to spend more money in being in the community college than actually in the university that the students are going to transfer out to. We need to do something about this because the whole school system has been changing and it is affecting us so much. We need to stand up for ourselves and we need to let the people know what is going on. We want to persuade the people to help us voice our problems out to the government so that they could know that their decisions are based on their theories not the actions that they predicted was going to happen. We need to let them know that they were wrong and that if they really needed money, to stop the wars in the third world countries and bring our soldiers back before this whole world becomes a living casualty.

I only wanted you to have prosperity
You ended this as a catastrophe
I gave you my best
Now I must take my rest
Family, Love, and a home were yours to claim.
You chose your Bro’s so where’s the blame?
You think your friends have your back
But I was trying to keep you on track
You had it made, free education and people on your side.
You betrayed me and took me for a ride.
Days are long, nights are cold where will you lay your head?
Please Lord, give him a shed
Now, I pray that God will spare your life
And bring you back before the knife

I feel like my bridge to my goal have been crippling like a crumbling cookie.
It's have been due to a budget cuts is crushing the bridge like a gigantic boulder coming from volcano eruption.
Which also come from government corruption.
Also, I have to find a more durable bridge that can withstand all the force.
It couldn't has been worse.
For a long and difficult destiny, I need a horse
to travel fast through the speed of light
to the future that is very bright,
before the new bridge get destroyed with great might.
I will survived through hardship to my fate.
However, for some; it will be too late,
since they can't afford to be educated
with all these cuts they have to create.
